The FTC challenges merger between Whole Foods and Wild Oats
June 21st, 2007 by The Law
The Federal Trade Commission has challenged the merger between Whole Foods Market Inc. and Wild Oats Market Inc. Whole foods recently bought out Wild Oats for $565 million, and they will also be taking care of Wild Oats debt. They FTC is challenging this merger because they feel that once Whole Foods wipes out there competition they will base their prices off their old ones and Wild Oats prices. They believe that they will then increase the prices even though other competitors exist. There would be no upscale organic grocery stores to choose from. So those who shop at only completely organic stores will be forced to pay higher prices.
